Walker’s Overlook Wedding in Walkersville Maryland
Having moved to San Diego from Maryland, I didn’t expect to return for a wedding more than a month or two after moving. Michael and Dana, both living in San Diego, rang me up and thankfully changed that by booking me for their Maryland wedding.
Dana has ties to the East Coast, so they decided that a Maryland celebration would be perfect. Their Walker’s Overlook wedding featured so much of the Maryland beauty that I often miss and it had the most adorable details and expansive surrounding landscape.
Dana, many would say, is one of the kindest women. Michael has the easy-going and excited, yet laid-back attitude that makes him a perfect match for sweet Dana. It’s no surprise that their wedding is filled with charming details, happy tears, and many, many jokes.
You’d never know it by his demeanor, but Michael actually hurt his foot a week before the wedding and was supposed to be wearing his boot all day. Such a trooper, he donned some dapper shoes and a great big smile all the way up until the reception!
Out of all of my wedding experiences, never have I had a huge prank happen. I fetched the wedding bands from the groomsmen and opened the boxes to shoot the rings, only to notice that Michael’s band was missing. Slightly in an internal panic, I went back downstairs to the guys to ask if anyone had the ring. Nobody did. After about ten minutes of everyone worrying about the ring, it suddenly appeared again. Turns out that one of the groomsmen removed the ring to prank the best man, who would open the box to find it empty. Needless to say, there were several jokesters in the bridal party!
One of the most beautiful elements of their wedding was their ceremony site. It’s these very large and beautiful landscapes that I miss about shooting weddings on the East Coast. With the large tree as the “altar,” the ceremony site was made cozy underneath its branches.
Watching Dana and Michael on the dance floor, all of their guests were either smiling or crying (tears of joy!). In a cozy white tent, everybody danced the night away, including Michael in his glow-stick adorned boot. A spontaneous hora took place that had the whole dance floor riled up and incredibly excited. In that moment, I decided that every wedding could use a hora ;-)
Michael and Dana, thank you for having me all the way out to Maryland to photograph your wedding. It is such an honor to be your wedding photographer and I have deeply enjoyed our time together. Enjoy your honeymoon in February and stay in touch!
