Kristen and Andy hosted a tropical wedding at the Catamaran Resort here in San Diego this July. Before reading on, there’s one thing you should know about Kristen. Last year, she began experiencing a series of ongoing and increasingly severe medical ailments, including losing her ability to walk well. She wasn’t sure if she would even be able to walk down the aisle at her own wedding.
After countless doctors’ visits with no concrete diagnosis, Kristen’s spirit miraculously never broke. She exudes positivity and kindness, and most impressively – patience with her illness. Although Kristen hadn’t received a surefire diagnosis, she did begin to get better this summer. On her wedding day, she did walk down the aisle toward Andy, who broke into tears at the sight of his strong and brave bride. Read on for other sweet details about their vibrant wedding celebration.
Kristen and Andy’s pink and tropical themed invitation suite stole my heart. As someone who loves color, I had the most fun time incorporating tropical elements into their detail photos.
As two people with tons of friends, Andy and Kristen both had large bridal parties that included their siblings and closest friends. All personal florals were in keeping with the tropical theme and featured fuschia and peach tones.
Catamaran Resort Wedding Ceremony
Not only did Kristen walk down her aisle, she made it down one of the longest aisles I’ve ever worked with – it includes stairs! I couldn’t be more proud of the work she has done to heal her body. Clearly, Andy couldn’t either.
Bride and Groom Portraits
Kristen and Andy were not fazed by the overcast weather. They were all smiles and laughter during their couple’s portraits.
Catamaran Resort Wedding Reception
Inside the ballroom, the best man and maid of honor toasted the lovely couple with beautiful memories. The couple performed a choreographed first dance (seriously, aren’t you so enamored with Kristen’s strength?) that ended with a dip. Guests awed over their smooth moves in the dance and cheered loudly at the finale. It was truly touching to feel the support of their love and how they overcame such an amazing feat together. I can absolutely say, this was one of the sweetest weddings I’ve ever photographed.
