Find me on
One of the things I am most passionate about in my business is educating brides on the different aspects of photography and wedding planning decisions that affect their wedding imagery. This wedding cake tasting advice is absolutely one to not miss! Full of sugary sweets, it’s one of my favorite educational shoots to date!

When fashion blogger Jessica of Cubicle Chic reached out to me about shooting her real cake tasting and consultation with her dessertier, I immediately jumped on the chance to shoot something that would inspire brides for their own cake tastings.

Jessica, who featured this shoot on her blog with a larger expansion of the educational element of the shoot, says that understanding aesthetics and taste was one of the most important aspects of the tasting experience. It makes total sense. If you’re into modern cakes, then look for a dessertier who shows that style on their website or Instagram. If you love elegant old-fashioned cakes, look for that!

She also found that becoming knowledgeable about the sizes of cakes is incredibly important. Know your guest count before your consultation and tasting. You don’t want to heavily over or under serve your guests!

Just as I feel that in-person wedding photographer consultations are absolutely vital to making the best possible decision, Jessica notes that a tasting is a must! This is your time to enjoy sweets and determine which cake and filling flavors best suit your palate and that of your guests. You’ll also be able to try out smaller desserts that supplement your dessert table, as well as provide options for people who are vegan, gluten-free, or simply not big cake fans.
