We’ve all seen dozens of engagement ring photos and I think we’re ready to see better engagement ring selfies! Ring photos are some of my favorites to shoot at weddings. Today I’m going to be sharing 5 tips for better engagement ring selfies so that you, too, can take gorgeous ring shots. These are all very simple tips, so that when you finally make the social media announcement to your friends and family, you’ll have a beautiful image to share!
5 Tips for Better Engagement Ring Selfies, tips for taking great photos of your engagement ring

1. Clean Your Engagement Ring

Now that you have this beautiful ring, it’s a good idea to invest in jewelry cleaner. Freshly cleaned engagement rings sparkle a lot. It’s a good habit to start forming, by cleaning your ring on a regular basis. Wedding rings and bands on a striped marble floor at Provisional in the Pendry, Cavin Elizabeth Photography

2. Treat Yourself to a Manicure

A manicure can be as simple or as fancy as you’d like. Whether you choose a clear polish or some serious nail art, a manicure will absolutely make your engagement ring selfies shine! Oval engagement ring, Orange County Thomas F Riley Wilderness Park Engagement Photos by Cavin Elizabeth

3. Find Window Light

I promise you that if you wait to take your announcement ring photo until daytime, you’ll find beautiful window light that will take your image from average to gorgeous! Stand about 6-12 inches away from the window and make sure your hand is facing the window light to some degree. The image below is a great example of how you should be facing relative to the window.

4. Use a Natural Hand Position

Rather than keeping every finger straight and your hand quite flat, try for a more natural hand and wrist position. I recommend bringing up your hand to your shoulder with slightly bent fingers. Think ballet hands. Joints are meant to bend and when they’re stick straight, they don’t look natural. You can also pose as if you’re brushing your hand through your hair. Whichever way you choose, make sure it looks un-posed!

5. Less is More for Editing

I always recommend going filter-free for 95% of images and to use as minimal editing as possible. If you can take a beautiful image in-camera/phone, your editing time will be drastically reduced. Cavin Elizabeth and David Klebanoff Engaged
