Find me on
Truth be told, I didn’t care much about flowers until my second year of working as a wedding photographer. I’m not sure if my tastes have grown or if the constant exposure to beautiful flowers is responsible for my adoration of botanical blooms, though I’m grateful either way. Recently, I had the pleasure of fulfilling one of photographing a Tulipina workshop. In fact, it was a workshop just for me.

You might be wondering if I’m having dreams of becoming a florist. Let me tell you, I’ve made an arrangement before and it wasn’t pretty. Rather, I’ve made it a goal of mine to expand my photography education outside of the confines of learning from another shooter. I enjoy learning from a healthy variety of educators and for a long time, had yearned for a workshop that would teach me how to better photograph flowers.

When Kiana from Tulipina agreed to my proposal to do so, I was ecstatic! Kiana is someone who I’ve swooned over for years. Every single arrangement she creates has so much color and life infused into an organic, romantic, and refined composition. If you aren’t familiar with her work, I urge you to go to her Instagram after you’re done reading this post.

After scheduling not one or two, but three engagement sessions in San Francisco on back to back days in August, I couldn’t not go crazy and squeeze in workshop with the master behind Tulipina. The second I stepped inside her clean, white studio with the loftiest of ceilings, I knew I had entered my own form of paradise.

Kiana’s studio was alive with not only with the fragrant smell of flowers, but also the prettiest sights of ruffled tulips, ranunculus in a variety of colors, and a striking fern wall. To say this place was a heaven of sorts would not be a lie.

Thank you, Kiana, for having me in your studio and teaching me all about your work in my very own Tulipina workshop. I am so grateful to you for your candid conversations about the wedding world and I will forever cherish this experience and the advice that you gave me. Here’s to hoping we work together again soon!
