Old Westbury Gardens in Long Island, New York

I recently flew to New York for a weekend trip to photograph a wedding at Oheka Castle. The day before, I visited the Old Westbury Gardens in Long Island. I adore seeing estates with blooming gardens and was delighted to see that the property had beautiful interiors too!

All images were taken on my iPhone because sometimes I cannot be bothered to lug my “professional” camera around on my off days. I’ll be mostly sharing smaller “details” that caught my eye – for more wide shots and visiting information, visit the Old Westbury Gardens website.

Old Westbury Gardens Home

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City, Old Westbury Gardens is a must-visit. The stunning main house features a mix of English Georgian and American Colonial architecture. What I loved most had to be the crown molding. I am obsessed with intricate crown molding!

The West Porch was absolutely stunning, as well. The windows are hydraulic, so they are able to descend down into the basement – allowing the porch to become open-air. I was blown away that a house so old would have that kind of technology!

Back to the interior – this mirror was incredible. The birds! I love that the mirror has birds built into the design of the mirror. I have such an appreciation for unique detailing on decor, so this was a favorite piece of mine.

The Grounds at Old Westbury Gardens

Inside the house, you’ll find elegant and classic interiors with intricate details and antique furnishings that transport you back in time. But the real showstopper is the sprawling grounds and gardens, which are meticulously maintained and offer a variety of landscapes to explore. From the colorful rose gardens to the peaceful ponds, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a different world.

The flowers above are tulips – can you believe it? I’d never seen tulips like that before. I’d only ever seen tulips like the ones below, which were huge! I could nearly fit my entire hand inside them.

They had several Double Flowered Tulips, which were so stunning. I wish I saw these flowers at weddings – they’re so beautiful and would be a unique alternative to peonies.

If you’re visiting Long Island, be sure to tour the Westbury Gardens for just $15. It is well worth it for anyone who loves flowers, interior design, or architecture!
