When my couples love gorgeous architecture and icons of San Diego, Balboa Park engagement photos make the perfect sense! Mallory adores traveling and design, so I knew she would love incorporating the historic design elements of Balboa Park in the photos. Shot primarily on film, these dreamy fine art engagement photos might be some of my favorite I’ve taken in Balboa to date!

Mallory says that Damian always has the best stories and is a constant source of funny jokes, fun games, and interesting facts. I think that’s why she’s always smiling so big. I adore super expressive couples like them – they make my job so easy!! And the way Damian looks at Mallory just makes me swoon. He says she’s the most selfless, caring, funny, and compassionate person he’s ever met. I can’t even imagine how beautiful their first look will be on the wedding day.

One of their friends gifted them a gorgeous champagne flute set, which we incorporated into the session. I encourage my couples to have a drink before or during the session. If during, it can be a great opportunity for candid images and tons of smiles. Who doesn’t love moments like these?!

One of the things I adore their Balboa Park engagement photos is the variety in backdrops. I could shoot five sessions there and make them all look so different. For Mallory and Damian, I stuck to neutral tones and heavily utilized architectural elements to frame them. The only tricky thing at the park is being patient to get your photos clear of other people in the park. Thankfully Mallory and Damian were just as willing to wait for the perfect moments.

Mallory and Damian, I am so excited to be photographing your wedding at Estancia La Jolla next year. You’ll make such a stunning pair and I also can’t wait to see how you design it. Counting down the days!!
