Katie and Todd are two of my favorite clients. I photographed their Coronado engagement and their Coronado Community Center wedding in 2017. Many of their photos are published in my book! Since their wedding, we’ve become good friends. They asked me to photograph their anniversary photos at home with their new puppy last month. Needless to say, I loved every second of the session. There’s nothing I adore more than baby animals, so I always welcome pets in sessions! Usually the pets I work with are older, so working with a puppy felt exceptionally exciting.
Little Pongo is a black pug who adores running around the grass lawn of Katie’s parents’ home. We fed him so many treats to keep his eye on the camera. Food rewards work so well for posed portraits in between the candid shots. I’m pretty certain he was fed half a bag of treats, but it was absolutely worth it for these adorable photos.
Many couples wait until they have a baby to take photos after the wedding, but I am a huge proponent of yearly portraits. Especially when you get a new pet, you have an even stronger reason to document your life. You don’t want to hit your 20th anniversary only to realize your last portraits were taken on your wedding day! David and I are in the process of buying a home and hope to have an at-home session with our cats at some point. He thinks it’s a little cat crazy, but I am dying to do it after our wedding!
Katie and Todd, I have so enjoyed photographing you two throughout your life together and am thrilled that we have so much fun at trivia and trying out new restaurants. It was so fun meeting little Pongo and I can’t wait to see him grow! He’s going to be so well loved.
